Introduction
Visions of Joy is an organisation that works with orphaned, vulnerable and disadvantaged children and communities.
Visions of Joy (VOJ) was founded in 2006. The organisation’s aim is to promote and support the development of orphaned children through a variety of ways but primarily through active interaction and participation. Visions of Joy offers several social services to members of different community with Basic needs, infrastructure, educational funds and educational programs.
Visions of Joy is a Non-Profit Organisation, and it plays a significant role in today’s society. It is run by a group of professionals who have a common goal- to educate and uplift the members of their society and invest in future generations.
Our Objective
VOJ’s objective is to bring joy to the lives of underprivileged children by giving them our time and providing them with opportunities to reach for success. VOJ aims to assist these children or adopted charities’ with their most pressing needs and/or educational requirements.
Our Mission
- To provide basic needs to underprivileged youth such as food, transport to and from school, clothes, books and life skills training.
- To assist underprivileged youth in securing educational and/or employment opportunities.
- To instill a sense of joy in youth through various interactive and fun activities.
- To raise funds for our various projects and initiatives.
- To combine the methodology of business with charity.
Current Projects and Activities
Education: VOJ sponsors and assists various underpriviledged individuals to study further through our Education fund. Typically we have preferred to sponsor short courses. By doing so we are able to give the individuals an immediate career boost, as they are able to apply what they learn to improve their existing careers. To date VOJ has spent over R100,000 from its Education fund. VOJ would like to continue this initiative and financially aid individuals who have taken the initiative to improve their own futures.
A few highlights
VOJ has been involved in the following activities with various charities and orphanages:
Nkosi’s Haven, Berea
- Master Maths tutoring sponsorship to the value of R30,000
- Visiting the Lion Park with 70 kids
- Career day held for Grade 8-12 kids and UJ University tour for the kids
- Renovation of cupboards and installation of shelves in children’s rooms
- Removal of rubble and landscaping of garden
- Installation of new washing lines
- Planting of the vegetable garden as well as trees and flowers
- Purchase of a new trampoline
- Hosted various functions for the kids such as a Spring party, outdoor children’s games, Easter egg treasure hunt, popcorn & movies, back to school party, painting & drawing, Christmas parties with Christmas gifts, Park visits and Halloween party.
Dorah’s Ark, Roodepoort
- Donation of a second-hand car valued at R65,000 for children’s transport to and from school
- Renovations to the kitchen and bathroom valued at R20,000
- Donation of second hand furniture
- Donation of printer cartridges
- Donation of second-hand clothes and monthly food hampers to the value of R1,000 each
- Hosted Christmas parties with meals and gifts for the kids.
Project Margaret’s Place
This was a joint initiative between VOJ and PIF. In 2016 PIF obtained land from the local council in Diepsloot to have its own premises to work from. They were only given a piece of land with no infrastructure. VOJ has taken this project to provide infrastructure to the site. Named after PIF founder Margaret Xaba who passed away tragically in 2016, the initiative aims to provide classrooms, play equipment and other basic infrastructure required for a safe haven of this nature for the kids. Margaret’s place is an after-day care centre where the kids can come to do their homework, get assistance and tutoring and have a decent meal (for some kids their only meal of the day).
As of April 2017, VOJ has established 2 container classrooms worth over R150,000, play equipment
and assist with other smaller infrastructures. It is VOJ’s vision to create a homely safe environment at Margaret’s Place for the 100-plus kids that attend daily.
Getting Involved
sVOJ is open to anyone who wishes to participate. In its quest to grow and contribute on a larger scale, VOJ invites interested individuals or
organizations to donate financially, of their time or otherwise (skills, expertise etc), to a particular
project or to the organisation as a whole.
